Fresh or salt?? Did salt water enter crankcase and gearbox? Freshwater could be pumped out and engine + gbox flushed and dried + new oil immediately - change early, possibly twice. Injection pump and electrics should survive - again flush and dry. Get engine going ASAP. If salt, store under freshwater before stripping. If salt, 7 days will not see much corrosion but MUST wash out all salt with copious freshwater. Time is critical. Just did two 8L3 Gardners that were under sea 3 months - immediate FULL strip - Just caught crankshaft and camshaft in time. Alternator alloy parts had turned to toothpaste but all four starter motors and relays were saved. |
