I bought a diesel raw water cooled 10hps.Ok I was going to drop it in a 16ft alum flat bottom putt. today I had it weighted and it is 350 kgs.
I believe it was a old navy tender as it is really built solid and at one time had a inboard in it.
will this motor be to heavy for the boat? thanks |

Hi Klatte,
In answer to your question No, providing you spread the weight with the engine bearers both fore and aft and port to starbourd of the engine, with a broad bace for the bearers made to fit the hull shape and bolted through any ribs on the hull, and if there are not enough ribs to take the main weight you will have to fit extra ones under the heavy parts of the engine.

Hi Keith, thanks I will have to drill through the hull, to mount the motor the channel iron will set on a 2/4 hardwood then bolt to the hull, i can see a few ways to reinforce it the big problem is the stringer run side ways instead of length of the boat and i will need to cut two . also I am not sure what kind of sealer to use for the 4 ss bolts. I now know that there is more work then i thought. looks like a lot of fun thanks Don |
