Looking into this old Pioneer marine engine mfgr this is what i've found so far !
Lackawanna was an old mfgring Co. 1840'-50's made first marine engs in Buffalo N.Y.in 1898, they were the old style base mount below the crankshaft, but innovative with the very early enbloc design. These engs I believe were all painted Black and little changes through 1905!
1904
1906 catalog stated many changes, crankcase split (except single) and mounts level with the crankshaft, they mention their forged crankshafts and lapped rings and 3 port design and their attention to more attractive engines ?
1906-07 Single and twin appear to be silver painted ?
This is a 24 HP that still carried the traditional Black color ?
The Flagship model for 1906 was this 40 Hp beauty that seems to have a Black crankcase and silver cylinders ? maybe this was continued and by 1909 their Silvered cylinders was their distingushing trade mark ??
Cool old engines, the company survived through the first WW but disappeared soon afterward ! |
