I still have hit nothing but dead ends everywhere on the 4 cylinder flathead racing ERD that I have. Does anyone have even the slightest information on them? I'd sure appreciate it as I want to get it running and installed in the boat and need to know what the operating range of it is.

Around 1914-15 Erd came out with an Overhead 4 cylinder that was raced in hydros, could this be the engine ??

Richard,

Those photos look to be the basic block that I have, but mine doesn't have the transmission, has a dry stack exhaust option and has a dual ignition magneto. It looks as if the priming cups are replaced with the second spark plug. Mine is also 3 5/16" bore x 4 1/4" stroke giving it less displacement at 146 ci compared to 179 for the one in the ad. I'd have to guess that they were after more rpm at the sacrifice of torque. Is there any way that I could get a high resolution copy of that ad? It sure would be nice. Here is the equivilent view of mine with the regular manifold installed as well as the casting that is in place of the transmission. ?This one also has an aluminum pan. Thanks for the post. It is the first tangible information I've been able to find.

Steve
