Does anyone know the weight and dimensions of the Chrysler Royal M48 (or M48S) straight 8? I'm thinking of buying one and any info on this engine would be appreciated. |

It all depends on the type of reverse gear. The M48 as offered with a 1-1 straight drive through a 9.11-1 double reduction and a V-drive. Here is the 1-1 info. It might be hard to read but it weighs 1030LBS. A rough One sold at a Portage, IN auction recently for less than $200 |

Thank you Drrot. I was looking at a 2:1 reduction gear which I guess will add a 100 pounds or so. But this gives me a rough idea - great. What's the general opinion on these engines? As I understand they're smooth runners and very reliable. |

They are smooth with good low end torque. Reliability relates to maintenance. One good thing is the internal engine parts are reasonably priced. |
