I have restored a Chris Craft 22' Tournament Fisherman with a chevy 305. The engine has 250hrs a marine edelbrock 600 cfm and pertronix ignitor and coil. I am using the original crab style dist cap.Last winter while I had the risers off a fair amount of antifreeze poured down the exhaust and into the after cylinder. The antifreeze laid all winter until this spring I drained the antifreeze out while changing the plugs. During usage the engine now starts and runs ok. While at any low mid or high engine speed underway the rpm varies every couple of minutes enough so it can be heard and the boat speeds or slows some. When I come back down to idle it smells like fuel in exhaust.I have checked the plugs changed wires and cap, fuel filter, cleaned and checked carb floats bowls jets.I am thinking either mechanical fuel pump, ignitor wearing out or sticky valve causing compression loss????Help |
