Whilst on holiday in the Galapagos Islands, off Ecuador, I saw a 3 cylinder Frisco Standard engine in a volcanic vent on the foreshore, I was told that it had emerged from the vent about 18 years ago having been engulfed at some earlier unknown date, it was said that the original vessel was a submarine but I find this unlikely and more probably a wooden vessel. From my recollections and a poor copy of an old indistinct catalogue I estimate the size to be 25 or 30hp. My questions are: Does anyone have a good copy of a catalogue with sizes of the flywheel for engine size (I can then get my contact on the islands to take some measurements)? Were they ever used on submarines? What date range was this engine built? What size boat might it have powered? I have pictures of this engine. David Carter, Weymouth UK

David
Stardard Gas Engine Company mfgrd engines from about 1901 in Oakland California, they moved to San Francisco about 1920 after this time the engines were referred to as Frisco Standards !

25-30 Hp 3 cyl to small for submarines although the much bigger Standard engs were used in subs.

If trouble posting photos -- click on my name at left and email to me I'll post them here and try to get some information.

David emailed this !

Richard
Attached are 4 pictures of the engine, I could not get them down to
less than 60kb as required by the website. Also best copy of the
catalogue, unfortunately I can not read the dimensions of dimensions
'O' and 'R' which look the easiest to check and a cleaned up image from
the catalogue. The engine was seen on the island Fernandina also known
a Narborough, the most western of the Galapagos Islands. Hopefully you
can get these onto the website.

Hi. I'm new to this site but noticed the Frisco Standard engine from the Galapagos. I work on a research ship that recently stopped by there. Here's another picture that one of the folks here took of said engine. Small world!
