Brown and Lipe were the two names associated with an iron foundry business in Syracuse. I'll try and find time to pursue info on the foundry business and the Jule Motor connection

My notes say that Charles E. Lipe established a machine shop in Syracuse in 1880, must have been an interesting place they were involved with many different inventions and product developments.

By 1920 Brown-Lipe was a gear and differential Co.

1924 Brown-Lipe-Chapin gear Co. was bought out by General Motors.

Don't have any direct info about the marine eng mfg, thought maybe the "JULE" was named after Brown his first name was Julian ??

Richard,
Could it be after he had a pocket full of money from the sale to GM, he started Jule Motor Corp, And used his former experience with gears to stress the importance of the Jules "built-in combination sliding gear and internal reduction."

Keith

That certainly looks to be the sequence here, in the ad it looks like a pretty good powerplant but they must have been a short lived company at least in the marine field, I have looked in ten or twelve 1927-29 Boating magazines and not found another ad ??
Maybe Bruce will find some info !
