Hay all i have a 1979 Bayliner Quartermaster and need to replace the motor as it is seized up I live in Washington and would like to know if any one knows of a good place to get a replacement motor. I would like to replace it with a motor that is the same as the one that is in there but am willing to put just about any thing in the hole if it will get my boat back in the water and trolling for the big one. Please let me know what you know or have I have been looking in to it for a while and still have no idea as to what i can put in there that will fit and work with out being too big for the motor cover and that will bolt up to every thing that is there i really don't want to spend more then $800 if i can help it and thats why i don't want to rebuild it as I'm sure the machining will cost about that. |

oh dear oh dear I don't think $800 will get you far, other than a very tired replacement engine for a seized engine. Is your Chrysler 6 really done for? Is it truly rust stuck or is there some other problem. If this was used in Puget sound or in salt water it probably is too late. Are you sure the engine will really not turn over. Maybe the starter is jammed or shot. is there oil in the i/o unit? Try turning the engine over with a metal bar-there should be some sort of crank teeth on the crankshaft pulley. Unless you are very handy or have a lot of handy friends fixing a big boat like a Bayliner will cost a very great deal more than $800. An engine rebuild usually runs about $2-3000. I suggest you check the want ads for a 12 foot grumman with a 1980's Johnson 9.9hp. This will save alot of money. Other than Jaws the fish don't care how big your boat is. |
