Hello to all. I am new here and somewhat new to old outboards. I just got a 1951 12 hp. Sea King. I have this motor running like new. I am really impressed with the power of this outboard. What I would like to do is put a fuel pump on it so I can use a external tank. But I am not sure as to how or where to get vaccum for the pump. I can only assume to drill and tap the crankcase. Would this be the way to go? Or should I just leave it alone and carry extra gas with me? Thank you |

It caaan be done, although I would be tempted to stick with the extra gas gan. I have a Martin 60 that had a fuel pump attached to it and I supposed it must have worked, although the diaphragm was shot when I got it. I haven't operated on a 1950's SK (had a 1939 single only) but there should be an access port plate on the side of the head. There should be two and this gived you access to the intake port where the mixture flows into the cylinder. The Martin's port was a flat aluminum plate so tapping it was simple. That's where your vacuum tube fitting should go. Use a pipe tap. |

Yeah I think your right. So I went out and bought a 3 gal. gas can. Its small enough so its not in my way in the boat. I will leave it stock for now and see how it works out. |
