Good job posting the pictures.... nice looking engine too. I am glad to see that more people are posting pictures... if anyone else wants to give it a try the instructions are in the "formatting" section on the left... then scroll down to the "images, attachements, clipart" section. |

Goodday. It would help us all if we knew where in the world this engine is made--I'm guessing Oz??? --I notice that the mag is on the output shaft--to use the engine you would have to make a one to one gear or sprocket & chain arangement! Also with a mag. it's only going to run one way. "All the best" Larry Healey |

Yes this is an Aussie engine restored to as original as possible. There is a conical clutch in the centre of the flywheel which engages by way of a lever pulling the shaft aft to disengage.. the prop thrust keeps the clutch engaged hence the engine could only run one way otherwise the clutch would disengage. Note also the lack of a carburetor.. a simple vaporiser does the trick. I'm not a penguin expert and as there are no markings on the engine a date of manufacture cant be ascertained. The only Clue is the vaporiser which is not shown on my 1940 manual & some experts suggest that it may have been made in the 30's also on all other penguins I have seen the Brass identity plate is rectangular ( with a little penguin logo)... the oval one has all the "experts" stumped but sugessting a very early Penguin. Does anyone know? |

That square box muffler is a kick. Is it sheet steel or cast iron or what? |

Eureka's engine is a very nice collectable OZ engine ......not many around but typical of the many of it's type manufactured here in the thirty's and right up to the fifty's. Thats when those US made outboards arrived and killed the little Aussie one lungers . |

The Muffler is Original... a cast iron box with some baffles.. just enough to give some back pressure to make it work.. |

That vaporiser is either off a smaller chapman/blaxland, or the exact same type was fitted, I have a few of these vaporisers at my workshop. My larger, later model Penguin is fitted with the Austral carb...... |
