Hi, I've found a single cylinder Evinrude petrol engine in my garage dated 1919. Unfortunately the piston is ceased but the rest of it is in fairly good condition. I would like to try and get it running. Does anyone know where I could get information on such an engine. Is it rare? What is it worth? How do I get it going? Thanks, Larry, South Coast UK |

Larry, If you use the Keyword Search link on the left and enter Evinrude, you will see some previous discussions. I don't know of any instructions for that engine in particular. The best "manual" for running any of the early inboards is probably the Palmer Gas Engine Handbook. Also Stan Graysons books are good history with some technical... particularly Old Marine Engines. An Evinrude inboard is a nice engine and well worth preserving, running, etc... but not particularly "rare" (I dislike that term) or valuable as far as these engines go... Regards, Andrew |

Larry, I forgot to mention that you might find a serial number (small, stamped in) on the vertical service of the base flange. Might be covered with grease or paint. |

Andrew, Thank you for your comments. It's actually 1916 and I think I've seen a serial number somewhere. I'll try to find some more out about it. Unfortuabtely it appears to be well and truely ceased although all the other threads on it are fine, typical! Thanks again, Larry |
