I recently picked up a single cylinder 4 cycle Lauson inboard Engine with forward/neutral transmission for which I need help understanding the WICO magneto operation. The information on the engine plate states it is 2 1/2 HP at 1750 RPM. The engine is a Type LF8253, Serial #0080. The WICO magneto, which looks good, has two coils. Why the need for two coils? I am unable to get the engine to fire, however I have a friend who bypassed the magneto with a battery/spark buzzer coil and the engine can be made to run and run well. Does anyone have a copy of the owners or parts manual I can buy for information? The motor may have been repainted blue - what is the correct color? I know the Lauson outboard motors are the same color blue. How common is this engine and when was it made? How is the engine speed controlled? I appreciate any help or information you can provide. Thanks |
