Definately a "Red Letter Day' for me when I find the name of an Old Marine Engine Mfgr thats been virtually lost from our recorded history. Thought I would share one of those days with this discovery of the "Holland Launch & Engine Co. of Holland Michigan. This ad was in a 1907 publication. I'll email this to Scott Peters The Michigan Historian that has been so helpful with Information here on this site. Any other info appreciated too ! |

Here is a bit more about the company--a pretty small, short-lived one (i.e. really rare, I presume) Holland Launch and Engine Company Holland Launch and Engine Company was incorporated in Holland, Ottawa County, on January 2, 1907 to manufacture boats and engines. Authorized capital stock for the firm was $15,000. The company was located on W. 8th Street in the community. The primary stockholder for the company was Herman Garvelink, who worked as a boat builder in the community for several years. All but one of the thirty stockholders were residents of Holland. The firm employed seven men in 1907, but a year it later was down to four men, according to the annual state factory inspection annual reports. By 1911, only one man was employed by the company. The firm apparently closed in 1911 or shortly thereafter. Sources: Polk, R. L. & Co. Michigan State Gazetteer and Business Directory, 1907-1908 (Detroit, MI: R. L. Polk & Co., 1907.) pp. 1172, 2330.
