I would like to locate an original ad for an Atlantic 4hp single cyl. or would like to know what papers the Lunenburg Foundry would have advertised in. Also does anyone know of an Atlantic being fitted with an aluminum piston? The historys say they were and it smoothed them out some, all mine are cast iron. Thanks |

See page 101 of "Old Marine Engines" by Stan Grayson. The aluminum pistons were put in druing the the 1930s, reportedly to boost the rpm for smugglers from the French islands of St. Pierre & Miquelon. Initially, they were machined 6 thou undersize and would "slap like crazy" when cold. After WWII a better alloy was found that permitted closer tolerances and less slap. |
