IN THEORY, it shouldn't kick back. I've seen one and the way it works is that there is a cam at the crank end that, using a picklefork rod, pushes the business end (can't think of what else to call it, but the second gear that attaches to the crankshaft)into some kind of clutching device and turns the motor against compression. At TDC the picklefork rod jumps off the cam and releases the gear from the clutch so the motor can start without kicking back. i am trying to copy the one I have seen, however, it is not apart and I don't know what the clutching device looks like. Rear start devices are the rarest of all old marine engine attachments. |
