I am new to this board and new to marine engines. I have always thought they were interesting but never owned one. I am an old car guy (20s cars) I am contemplating building a copy of the first car in Alaska which was built by Bobby Sheldon of Skagway in 1905, using a single cylinder 2 cycle marine engine salvaged from an sunken boat. The car is in a museum in Fairbanks, but the original engine is missing and exactly what it was is a bit of a mystery. They have an engine that they think is the same type as the one he used in the museum (see picture). I am interested in finding out what it is and how hard it would be to find a pre-1905 single cylinder motor of this type for the project. Any help or advice would be appreciated. |
