Just bought this twin yesterday, I think its a 6 hp although the guy I bought it from said it was an 8 hp, turns over quite stiffly, has compression, so I think it will be a runner when I get a chance to restore it, things I know: - couple head studs missing -One of the crankcase covers missing and replaced with steel -a few carb part missing -exhaust manifold has one lug broken and has a crack -primer cups need replaced -the ignition brushes need work, either springs broken or missing -water pump has been broken and repaired, May need rebuild or replace But overall, it seems to be in pretty good condition, Im surprised how stiff the engine seems, you can turn it over by hand but it turns over pretty stiff, even with the spark plugs out, or the heads off, I thought maybe it was the pistons so I took the heads off and put some oil in, but there is no issue with cylinders or pistons, no play or slop in the engine at all, its almost like it has been rebuilt and never run in.. I found that the ignition slugs had worn the holders into an egg shape hole. I drilled them out to a round shape and then sweat soldered a solid slug into the hole. I then drilled out the slug for a nice sliding fit for the contact piece of brass. That helped a lot to make the ignition more reliable and consistent. Di you try pumping in some thin grease into the 3 main bearings? If the engine had been sitting undisturbed for some time the old grease might have caked up The primer cups look to be original - should be repairable. The water pump might be repairable but if not, you will likely be able to find a replacement - they are not rare. Miro Miro |

I suspect it might be very old very hard grease that is causing it to be stiff, when I have time I will clean out the old grease and put some softer grease in and try that. When I have the time, likely next winter I plan to tear this down and do a complete restore, clean it up and paint. Make it look pretty. |

Great little engine krossfire. Likely right around 1910 or thereabouts. Shouldn't take much to make it snort. Blair |

Still puttering with this old twin looking to see what I have to repair etc, I noticed that there are about three shims between the connecting rods and caps on the lower end connection to the Crankshaft on both cylinders, is this normal? |
