Well Bob, that is an interesting one. Has me a bit confused.

The tag would suggest a manufacture date of about 1905-1909. The heads should be turned 90 degrees counterclockwise looking down on them. Someone has driven in the gib key too hard and split the hub at one time, but has a very nice blacksmith band repair on the flywheel. Looks like the support is there for a two-feed drip oiler on the side opposite the manifold. Would be 6 or 8 hp depending on the size. That is the easy part, now for the confusion.

On the other early engines with the small rectangle tag, there have been some common traits. There is usually a large oval plate on the top of the exhaust with the St.Lawrence name which yours does not have. There is usually an eccentric driven plunger pump while yours has a gear driven gear pump. Yours seems to have the mount at the top of the rear cylinder to hold the rotary timer support above the gear pump, but would not need it with the front lever timer. There is usually an external water pipe from each head to the top of the exhaust manifold which yours does not have.

That being said, St.Lawrence did many unusual things over the years. It looks more like a ROUND TAG engine from maybe 1908-1909 but the closeup of your tag looks right with original paint surrounding. Odd.

Any way you look at it, it is a great early Canadian engine. Lots of good information on this site.

That's a lot of great information.
Its from an estate. No history.
Look to have only been used in fresh water.
Missing one brush (the slug and spring)
Both spark plugs are no good.
Turns over easily,,
