Just split the lower crankcase from the cylinder on a McDuff and find no evidence of a gasket. Did some manufacturers rely on a machine fit and if so, what did they use in place of the gasket, if anything? |

danth48. I have noticed there has been no response to your question. I am by no means an expert, but what I can tell you is that at aero engine overhaul shops when assembling horizontally opposed piston engines it was common to bed a thread in a thin layer of gasket compound before mating the two crankcase halves. The same was true of the accessory gear box mating surface. In this case, since the crankcase is not pressurised a simple thread held in place with gasket goo is sufficient. Cheers! |
