It is a Q-1 and with the rare oil tag it has to be post about 1911 as that is when they began to insist that users mix oil in the gasoline to lubricate the engine. Unfortunately the serial/Model tag which was mounte in the same relative position on the port side as the oil tag on the starboard side is missing. You can see one of the mounting screws for the tag. The other would be about 2-11/16" from the front screw. It is missing the water pump and it has the three bolt pump flange that appeared I think at the moment about 1916. I am trying to work up the differences among the known existing Q-1s to establish a probable manufacturing year for those engines that have lost their serial numbers. Six spoke flywheel suggest post 1910-12 Cuno timer at top of cylinder says about 1916 or later. Spark plug on top center of cylinder again say post about 1910-12 Exhaust flange missing on Starboard side. Intake flange missing on Port side. Carburetor would have been Schebler Model D 3/4" Petcock on top of cylinder should be a Priming cup. Petcock on Aft port face is correct for water jacket drain. Timing gear guard is present. The guard is often missing. Very hard do find. Base appears to be the early 8-3/4" wide base with mounting bolt bosses. Best I can do at the moment

Gerrit,
There is a pic of my Q1 on my web page at:

www.erniesengines.com

Make sure to go all the way to the bottom of the first page and click next to see all pages.
Your engine appears to be exactly the same as mine. My engine is brand new. The story is that it was taken a piece at a time by a former Palmer Employee.
Hope this helps
Ernie
