I found this at the auction in Hudson NY 2 weeks ago. Seems to have never seen salt water. |

Here are Mike's pics (and what is probably a new serial number for Dick Day's list!):

Mike, Don't keep me in suspence. Whats the serial number cannot read with these old eyes. I think its a BHW with the Palmer water pump on the end of the camshaft. |

Yup, that's the number. Sorry about the delay on posting the pics. I'm still trying to figure out the whole linux thing. Thanks, Andrew for putting them on for me. This engine appeared to be stuck, but upon removal of the reverse gear cover, I found an extremely "crudded up" mechanism. No heavy pitting is evident. Looks like a careful disassembly and cleaning of all components will get this unit back in shape. Does the BH use the same mag as the model 27? Thanks, Mike |

No, The PW-27 uses the classic Wisconsin drive with disk coupling. The BH has a drive gear either 1/2" wide in some models and 5/8" is others. Best I can do maybe someone else can give you the mag model once you know the gear width. |

Thanks, Dick. I may have a lead on another BH with a shot cyl. and head but possibly a good mag. |

Mike it appears your 1957 BH has a Snow-Nabstedt Model 3704 Reverse gear. What puzzels me is I had no idea that they were still using S&N as late as 1957. I thought they were phased out about 1953. New problem for me to solve. Are there any surviving BH models with S& N reverse gears. Most seem to have Paragon OXKB. |

Thanks for that note JB. How is John coming along. Unfortunately I have developed a serious pinched nerve in my neck which I am afraid will keep me from going to Mystic this year. If it continues to improve I may yet make it but that is pretty iffy. I sure hate the thought of missing the Mystic show especially this year they have finally got the engines out where we can really get to see them. |

Dick, I saw John, Bob and Dick Gibbens Sunday, they're planning the trip to Mystic. John's doing fine, sorry I won't make the trip. |

Sorry to hear you cannot make the trip JB. At the moment I don't know if I can as I have a pinched nerve in my neck that is still pretty painful. Hope it clears up enough to make the trip Glad to hear John is doing fine. Regards, Dick |

Did you get this at Hudson Auction on Union Street in Hudson, NY? If so, do you have an email for them or some way to contact them. I b ought some things there and they are not returning my phone messages. |

Greetings to all, I am searching for information on my Palmer BH, Zenith carburetor. I understand that there is no kit available for the 87 Series. I have cleaned it and am about to reassemble, however the jets appear to be larger than necessary. The main jet is marked as a 40 but is actually a 43. The idle jet is marked 14 but is an actual 27. The next issue I see is that the main jet adjuster has been replaced with a plug, leaving no mainjet adjustment. Will this engine run set up this way? Any help would be appreciated. Mike Bronsink |

Send me your snail mail address and I'll send you a copy of Bulletin No. Z-279 covering the Zenith 87 Series Carburetors. It does not include jet sizes. The jets are adjustable. Spence Kerrigan |

Thanks for the offer, but I already have the Palmer booklet from Heritage that has that bulletin in. I guess I'm wondering if anyone else has run this carburetor without the adjustable main jet but with a pipe plug only. I noticed that the 161 series carburetor shows both an adjustable mainjet and also a plug, apparently as an alternative. Any thoughts? |
