Hi all i am new here so please forgive me if this has been covered before but I wonder if anyone can help! I am a trustee at a small museum/science learning centre in a small town in England and we have in our collection a single stroke Fox engine and wondered if you could point me in the right direction to get more information or maybe even a valuation. It was purchased by an ex trustee and to be honest it has been left in the corner and forgotten about. We are currently running a stock catalogue report and would really appreciate any info anyone could offer! Thank you in advance

* Fox reversable Gasoline Engine Co.was founded in 1904, the early engines had a two piece Cylinder and upper crankcase joined by a square flange thru 1907, the new design in 1908 has the one piece cylinder and upper crankcase, the 1908 shows your design of waterpump the 1909 -1911 show a bit different design ! I would Date your engine 1908. 1911 Dean Mfging took over Fox marine engine production. This is an old post from here. http://www.oldmarineengine.com/discus/messages/5/5945.html#POST8475 * |

This was in the British motorboat Museum in Basildon Essex, before it closed. I was interested, but I never heard back from them |

Forgot to mention I am based in Nottingham in the UK. I have a working English Brooke marine single cylinder engine complete to swop if you are interested, if this would be of benefit to your museum? |

The lack of corrosion would suggest this was a lake or river engine; which river? A triple feed Lavigne oiler (missing the filler plug) and an in-house timer? (aka: distributor) The old garden tap sticking out of the head will have to go! And that piece of copper pipe sticking out of the square plug in the side of the cylinder...is it a dummy or was someone bypassing a non functioning water pump? And what's the connection between "South" Cincinnati and Newport, Kentucky? That was a nice set of number stamps they used for the serial number; wonder where you could find a set like that today? http://www.maritimeheritageeast.org.uk/museums/the-motor-boat-museum "The collection is being dispursed..." Freudian slipway? |

Jed, let me know the best address to send / email pictures etc to, and then you will have something to put to the board. Where is your museum? Is it still in the Basildon area? Richard |
