I just picked up this American last weekend. I've poked around some on here and have found similar ones, but none quite like this. The inlet pipe is simply pipe thread instead of the pictured "manifold" with four bolts that I've seen on other shots. The number stamped on the ID plate is 318. Can anyone offer up an information on it? What type of inlet poppet should it have? It looks like I need to find another Schebler now as well. Thanks Steve

Nice engine, the four bolts hold a check valve, allowing the engine to run on a carburetor. Your engine was probably equipped with a mixer from the factory, these have a check valve built in. An inline check will allow you to use a Schebler. |

Can anyone with an American please send me some good photos of the stop lever on the timing lever? Mine is missing and I want to fabricate something fairly representative. I will be starting the restoration of this one soon and want to take care of that one piece that I am missing. Thanks |

Steve's American resembles Scott Noseworthy's style Caille-especially the 4 bolt inspection plate and the water pump style IMO. |

Jack, This piece of literature is from the Richard Durgee Archive and I think it is very close to being the same as your American Engine. American Engine Co. 1912
