I am lucky enough to have two running Friscos. For one I have a complete history and Waugh & Josephson number. The other came from Woy Woy, 28ft half cabin cruiser, 5 HP. There is no makers plate (? new barrel at some stage) but stamped on crankshaft end is 511 or 571. Any dating info out there?

Syd Heritage Fleet is doing up a single and has one other (with governor). About 5.75" bore. We made patterns for cylinder and head, made castings and are almost finished machining. Ou volunteer patternmaker and nearby foundry are absolute craftsmen. Keen to find out more if anyone can point us towards technical history resources. We do know that water jacket rust is the biggest single problem these old motors face.

I'll have to get down there and see what you have. My 4 HP, 4.75 bore 6" stroke has a governor and belt driven Wizard generator but unfortunately gearbox was sold with the boat. It was saved by being used as a farm stationary from 1942 onwards. The 5 HP, 5.75 bore, 6.5" stroke has a wizard low tension gear driven magneto and is hand throttled and complete with differential style gearbox. The barrel is v good condition but the head was pretty desperate but saved by some brilliant work by Mike at Metalock. I have made up an exhaust manifold but it would be nice to have the proper item. Perhaps we should start a register of these engines? I have also restored an even earlier Union engine, igniter, epicyclic gearbox, for a country museum.
