I've been working on this inverted Racine twin, some of you may remember the crankshaft I made for it. I started cleaning the block and realized the cylinder had been repaired with epoxy. It looks like someone was trying to bore it and gave up. About 3 1/2" of the cylinder was in good shape, I figured I could start honing from there and get a good in line bore. This engine is headless, doesn't even have a plug at the head to run a boring bar through as Iv'e sen on a lot of headless engines. Setting up a boring bar would have been rough and it would have been a long reach, makes me wonder what kind of equipment they had to bore them in 1895. I ordered some 70 grit stones for the Sunnen hone, used them dry. It was slow going at first, the top didn't get round until .110" over, after that I could increase the pressure and it went faster. Worked about 5 hrs yesterday, got to .160" over, another .030" this morning and the sleeve was ready to go in. Installed it and honed it to within .001". I have to make a tool to chamfer it, that will make it less obvious, it should blend in well.

Thanks, it was a lot of honing, I could have brought it to a machine shop with a Sunnen power hone but it's nice to say I did it.
