I recently acquired a 1941 26 foot sloop with an inboard Palmer 60 horse engine. The transmission is not working at the moment, and I would like to remove it to bring it somewhere to have it worked on. My goal is to do this with the boat in the water - perhaps lift the engine off its mounts, slide it forward to remove the shaft from the transmission, and then unbolt and remove the trans. I am basically just looking for advice, as this is the first time I have ever attempted anything like this, and this is also my first boat. Also looking for anyone in the New York tristate area who could potentially look at and/or work on the transmission. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.
