I recently purchased an Alpha Type D carby and was surprised to find that although it must have once been attached to an engine (green paint on the throttle lever and connecting elbow)it seems unused. The broken float I have repaired with epoxy but I'm wondering what to do with the throttle casing. It has been split open somehow and the 2 parts don't mate perfectly. I suspect that whatever force was used to shear the pins has bent the halves slightly. What is the best way to level these up? And what about reconnecting them? Thanks, Mark |

It looks (sort of) like a Schebler D type. Perhaps you might find that the parts that are damaged can be replaced by the equivalent from a Schebler miro |

It is practically identical to a Schebler - an Australian copy I think. The throttle casings now mate ok. Some gentle filing and then rubbing on wet/dry mounted on glass did the trick. So now they only need to be joined. They seem to be connected only by the brass pins clearly visible in the second photo. So I guess it's just a matter of finding appropriately sized material and pressing it through the holes? I'll check the hardware store cos some 1.2mm brads might just do it. But the connection will need to be air tight I guess so would a thin smear of gasket cement be wise? |
