I might be looking at a Palmer PW27 that is for sale. I don't have any details yet, 1950's I believe, and I think salvageable (salt water engine). I don't know if there are any cracks yet. I believe it is complete. I have no idea where these stand on value and am wondering if anyone can comment? It is in southern New England. Thanks. |

Ned, If it is salt water look it over very carefully. If it was me I would want to remove the head as that is the only way to really see what the water jacket looks like. Hope this helps Ernie |

Ernie: Thank you, I will certainly do that if I am able to. |

Ernie, is right and if you buy it I would send the head and cylinder to the Coates to have the salt cooked out of the cast iron. No dip tank or caustic soda will get the salt out of the water jacket. The PW-27 is not a rare engine but a good condition one is useful in a small boat as the parts are easily obtainable except for the head and cylinder. |

The engine is still in the boat and the owner of the boatyard thinks (can't remember for sure) that it is freshwater cooled (with antifreeze). That would bea great surprise! Hopefully I'll be going to look at it in a week or so. |
