I got a call today, someone is donating an 8hp Roberts 4 cycle to our club. It's a single cylinder, from the original owners family. It will be several weeks before I get to see it, any idea what I might be going after? |

Thanks Bill, this is supposed to be a one cylinder 8hp, don't know if it's a large engine or a smaller high speed. |

* J.B. Recently I had been looking into Roberts 4 cycle engs and this is what I have found so far ! I agree with Bill's posting above that Roberts 4 cycle 8 hp was a small twin The model was designated as "H". Bruce G posted his one of a kind early model H here awhile back, it uses Ford model T pistons, two part valves /tappets etc and the head design looks like the very early T engines with the down slope water intake, the water pump bracket and water inlet into side of block looks early and at this point I believe it to be Pre WWI ?? Roberts first ads right after the war in 1919 shows this Model H 8 hp engine but it has gone through several changes, head redesigned to support water/pumping directly into it ! This engine was advertised 1919 to 1921. 1922 brings a new 4 cycle design on board Model "J". these engines were advertised through 1925-6. this ad is a 4 cylinder but it references the twin 8 Hp. Hope its a single cylindered engine we then have another unknown engine model to look into !! * |

If it's a 2 cycle, this one from 1917 would be nice.

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but I thought it would be good to place this with other Roberts two cylinder information. I found this motor, it looks similar to the ones pictured above. Does anyone know what it is? It appears to be a modified version of the above motor. I can't seem to get my photo to upload it but I can email it to anyone. Thanks for your help. |

It seems to look like the Model H pictured in the ad you posted last year with the differences being the absence of primers and the presence of a coil and an electric starter. Were these good engines? |

What sort of transmission would be used with an engine like this? |
