Quinton, There are gearboxes 'about' to suit the Blaxland twins. I recall seeing some info on earlier posts under 'blaxland' and I have had one on a boat I had about 20 plus years ago. They are not that common and they do take a bit of power out of the motor, but I have to ask what that problem with your dog clutch is? They are usually very reliable and simple to maintain. They will slip if over oiled and tend to stick if under oiled. What is the correct oil? I'm sure others will have clearer advice but I suggest - only oil when it starts to get 'sticky' nd then only a few drops of 90 grade oil.
