I am currently in the processess of building a 24ft picnic launch. The plans refer to an electric 3hp motor. I would like to use a hit'n miss. What size would be best and what type? I want an engine which would not so unique that I would not be able to repair and maintain.
Any suggestions? |

At 12 volts the current for 3 HP would be about 185 amps (not counting losses) -as I recall.
You can't put an older outboard motor on it? |

Based on 24 ft and 3 hp, yu'd like to see a propeller with a dia of about 12-14 in and pitch of about 14-15 in. The engine should be making about 700 -800 rpm. Having a bit more power ( say 4 or 5 HP) would let you run the run at less than full throttle.
