I'd like to throw out an idea for discussion to Ernie and Dick and others that consideration of a North East OME Hot Stove (mid winter) meet be considered.Long time from August at Mystic to May at Calvert to swap and share the hobby.Or does everyone head South to Richards territory in cold weather?? |

I have an old outboard engine that had belonged to my grandfather. I have been told that is a 1940 Waterwitch, two cylender opposed engine, 5 hp, sold by Sears. That is about all I know about it except that it needs a carburator. I havent tried finding one yet because I dont know where to start but my big question is this, What could I use for a non orignal carb? Would I bee better of using one fron a differnt outboard or a lawnmower,or evan a small two stroke motorcyle? Thanks in advance for any infomation. Ken D. |

Ken, This board is really for antique "inboards", not "outboards". You could try the antique outboard club at www.aomci.org. You could also try the discussion board at MarineEngine.com. You also might want Peter Hunn's book The Old Outboard Book. Regards, Andrew |

Ernie can't head south. Still have to work for a living. Sure lets toss around the idea. I won't have any free time untill at least January though. Bruce where are you located. I am in South Eastern Mass. |

How about a central location like Albany. That is about the same distance from eastern Mass as Bruce is from Albany, Andrew could come down from VT without too much driving and the folks in CT and NJ and on Long Island would also be able to drive north. Look at a map and see if you don't agree that Albany might make sense. Good roads in every direction. 'Course there is the matter of the weather but we usually have a January thaw (sometimes) and there are several places that come to mind where we could meet like the Empire State Plaza, some buildings at SUNY Albany, or Hudson Valley Community College. Bob Price (who lives 25 miles west of Albany) |
