I currently own two Detroit Engine Works marine engines. I picked up the first one a couple of years ago and the second one at auction last Wednesday. Both will fire up and run when hooked up to a buzz coil. One is quite a bit larger than the other. The bigger one measures 19 inches from the bottom of its mount to the top of the "jug" and about 7 inches in diameter including the water jacket. The other's corresponding measurements are 15" X 5 1/2". Any information on these engines would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Jim

Greetings Jim, here is what I know about Detroit Engine Works:

Detroit Engine Works

Detroit Engine Works was a marine engine manufacturing firm located at 1250-1280 Jefferson Avenue in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan. Hugo Scherer was president of the firm with Frederick E. Wadsworth as secretary and treasurer. In addition to marine engines the company also made stationary gasoline and kerosene engines, traction engines and reverse gears. Scherer and Wadsworth also owned and managed the Detroit Motor Car Supply company, Thrall Motor Company, and Columbia Engine Company.

Both Scherer and Wadsworth were also the principals of the Detroit Boat Company, which was located at the same facility and manufactured launches and canoes.
