Company founded in 1899 and ceased mfgring 1903.
Rare offset shaft to lessen propeller angle, looks to have been a real pant cuff grabber ?

That lower shaft got my attention also, Richard. The two drums are for forward and reverse, after studying harder you can see the shaft on the rear bearing support for the reverse idler, in forward it runs gear to gear, shaft rotates opposite engine. In reverse it's gear to idler to gear for same rotation. No planetary.

You are the Master at expaining so much in so few words !

I entered offset, counter, parallel etc shaft in my data base search and came up with two more mfgrs interestingly enough both New England mfgrs !

A.A,Adams 1908 ad, counter shaft is lower than crank level and appears to be offset to the side ? single drum I would think maybe in-out cone clutch ?

The other Mfgr Lawrence Machine Co.Lawrence,Mass is heretofore not listed in any publications in last 100 yrs that I know of ? It was entered many yrs ago from my hand written notes and has very little info so I will have to research it,approx 1901-02 their offset shaft had sprockets and roller chain ?

This is the Lawrence Machine Co. engine ( 4 cycle)mentioned in the above post, after reading the article It seems that the counter shaft they refer to was the shaft that activated the valves from eccentrics that were driven by roller chain. The slides on the round supports look like steam engine technology ? This would be a visual delight to see running !
