Tom Risch sent me these asking for help. No question when piston came up it would hit the insulated contact inside the cylinder but I am not sure of his lash up and if that is plastic tape I doubt it would last the first explosion. What is needed are pictures of the complete igniter set up. He also was not aware he needed a check valve between the carb and the crankcase intake. Hope someone has one of the engines so we can see what the entire igniter looked like. Why the spark plug I cannot guess. Probably just plugging the hole.

This ignitor looks like a Tuttle I saw apart a few years ago. The engine is local and I will attempt to get pics. |

I just discovered that the above engine came out of a boat on Lake Dunmore, in Vermont. About at 1/4 mile from where I live. I will try to contact the owner and see if he will post some pictures of the boat as well.

That is a nice piece of work Sam. The mixer appears to be a Lunkenheimer, no longer a Shebler, What is used for a timer, not clear in the vidio. |

It took a while to figure the engine out for Tom. But once I made all the correct parts (Thanks to all the people and Information on this site) I was able to get the engine running. Your right! The mixer is a Lunkenheimer reproduction. As for a timer, there isn't one. The engine runs fine with a set ignition timing and it needs alot more advance than you would think. (had to shape the trip arm just right to get the timing in the sweet spot) But it is still easy to start with no kick back.

If you would offset the stationary contact you could rotate it to change the timing. |
