Andrew, I'm restoring a Clarke single and need a picture of the water pump attachment point. A piece of the base casting on mine is missing ( starboard rear corner) and I'm guessing this is the former attachment location with the pump in the horizontal position? Large timing gear also appears to have been replaced and needs repair as well. Pictures on the Clarke site don't show much detail, but I did notice you had or may still have one of these engines. Was the Original color Black with a red flywheel? |

captainbill, I do still have that single cylinder Clarke. I just checked and I don't seem to have any better pictures of that engine. I can try to take a couple of pictures of the water pump attachment point and the timing gears this weekend. Remind me if I don't post it by early next week. I don't know about the color. That is the way I got it, but can't say if it is oringinal or not. Have you asked Keith Kinney? It would be a good idea to make contact with him anyway and let him know that you have a Clarke. He has done a lot of research on the company... if anyone hasn't seen it... see: Clarke History. Post a picture of your Clarke here if you get a chance, or send it to me and I will post it here. Regards, Andrew |

Contacted Keith Kinney per your suggestion Andrew. He has just gotten an original Clarke catalog which he plans to post on his web site. Responded quickly to my E-Mail and I'm sure he can help. Thanks. The grandson of the company's owner thought these engines were painted machine gray, but wasn't sure. When I pulled the castings out of my "soup mix" I saw signs of grey paint as well as very dark red, maybe red lead primer? I guess I'll go with machine grey. I'm sure something is missing from the timer housing now that I have it apart. Housing is machined for some type of cover/bearing support? I have nothing but a shaft supported at one end! |
