* E.W.Roberts over the years probably designed and manufactured more different models of marine motors than any other one person ! Post photos of both sides and a readable photo of the makers tag and I will try to get an I.D. close to the year of manufacture ! If trouble posting photos click on my name at the left and email to me I'll post them here . * |

* Lyle This is an old file photo of Serial # 10268 that was mfgrd in 1918 your engine a few engines later probably 1918 and some of the last ones made before WWI. Don't know if this eng used Model T ford parts? Take a few photos of pistons and measure them and post here . Lots of model T experience on this site. * 1918 Roberts * |

Because it's 2 cycle I doubt it used T parts, the connecting rods would be about the only thing useable. |

Nice looking engine Lyle. You've got the brass, that's more than half the battle. You should be able to find some guts that can be made to work. I think that the engine below is the Roberts conversion of a 2 cylinder Model T Ford to which you were refering. Can you put a ballpark date on this one Richard?

* Blair What a cool old marine engine conversion, I haven't seen one of these so I appreciate the photos. Roberts made so many engine designs it would take a book of its own to list all of them,I,m sure this engine would be in one of his catalogs but I have never seen one in a photo ad. As early as 1918 there is reference to ford parts engines but the real rage came in the early 1920's peaking about 1924 or so, clicked "Ford Parts" into my data base and 30 names came up ! Many completley new mfging companies were established in these yrs to just produce ford parts marine engines, Hess and DuBrie come to mind. As an aside things do change, in 2000 I bought a new Ford truck and it has an "International Harvester" engine in it ?? * * |
