A friend picked up a single cylinder marine engine in an Erie canal town west of Rochester NY. He was told it's a De Mooey. Not much on this site on De Mooey. Pretty distinctive characteristics. Four Spoke flywheel with reinforcement cast into the face of the spokes.Intake is a flange mounted to the four bolt inspection plate on the base(left side facing the flywheel). A spring check air valve is cast into the base on the right side (facing the flywheel)just behind the flywheel. The Exhaust looks to have had a gland type union enabling easy removal of the exhaust pipe. Timer is bevel gear driven from behind the flywheel.Spark plug horizontal mounted on carb side of cylinder-looks to be 3/4 pipe thread. Richard,Ernie,JB??? |

Bob Legnon aquired a little DeMooy from Jamie Hurry. Bob's on his way back from Coolspring, It will be a few days before he's home. This engine was small, had a very heavy flywheel, solid, not spoked. I just did a search, leave the e out of it. The pictures at my camp show Jamies in pic # 4, it was a brown color then. |

* Bruce Prior to 1906 DeMooy mfgd a really cool 4 cycle marine engine, 1906 they came out with a two cycle headless with a 6 bolt side plate and horizontal plug, in 1908 changed it and added the bevel gear timer and 4 bolt side plate ! The early DeMooys used square headed bolts looks like they were still using some of them in 08 on the intake plate on this one ! If this isn't the motor email a few photos to me ? DeMooy 1908 * |
