Richard is going to see if he can ID it for me, any help would be appreciated. The water pump and base are Termat & Monihan style, the boxed manifold is cast into the cylinder, the T&M's I've seen were bolted on. The flywheel has a gibb key, the hub has been repaired. All of the Detroit, Caille, and T&M's I've seen had a tapered flywheel with a nut, but they may have been later models. The intake valve cage resembles a Caille, but they usually had four bolts and were shorter. |

JB, All the Detroits,Cailles and T&M's I have ever seen all had crank shafts that use gibb keys and I have seen a lot of them. Never seen any of these engines with a tappered crank and a nut. Sure your not thinking of a another engine company? |

Johnny, I took some pictures of what we have here, not all are tagged but seem to be in the same family, you be the judge.

That engine has an American inspection cover. The swing timer is a himemade addition, it has the hole in the crankcase and the boss on the head for the post timer. This engine seems identical and has the Caille cover.

Itook the flywheel off this engine years ago and installed it on an old friends 4hp Caille when he cracked his by running with a timer that was shorting out and over advancing. The flywheels were identical on these motors, but the cylinders and timers were different.

This is an old base, no ID, the threaded section is broken off, but it is a tapered crank. And a 2hp Caille.

You learn something every day... Guess I should of stuck with the engines I know more about (Detroits). Do you have any photos of Detroits with tappered shaft and a nut? |

JB, I was just looking at the photos of the first engine you posted and that round plate on the flywheel makes me wonder maybe if the keyway and hub broke on that flywheel and someone may of added the round plate with a new key way slot as a fix? What do you think? |

Johnny, the crank is bigger than the threaded section, I doubt they welded it. Flywheel is definately a repair. I'll keep an eye out for the Detroits, haven't payed attention to them before. |
