My neighbor owns a single cylinder Clarke Marine Engine. We have no idea what horsepower but it looks similar to a 3 HP picture that we found on another website. We have questions about the direction it should turn when it runs. What direction should the flywheel turn when you are facing it? Thanks, Jim |

If it is the usual 2 cycle - either direction usually works OK. In most cases they turned anticlockwise looking at the flywheel. It is simply a matter of ignition timing. A piston water pump is OK, but a gear pump installed in a boat will only working one direction. For closed circuit cooling at an engine show, the gear pumps work in either direction. miro |

I think Clarke made 2 and 4 cycle engines. Could you describe the engine in more detail or post some photos? Also see Clarke Marine Engines. |
