Hello enginelovers!
I am looking for information on a Vickers marine engine from ca
1938-39. It ran on gasoline (Benzine) and was,once mounted in my 45�wooden motorcruiser from 1913. According to my sources this engine was, compared to others, very rare and expensive, and used much less gas. Vickers, a british company produced tanks, planes and engines durning WW2. Rolls Royce was a subdivision of Vickers. Unfortunately I don�t have the modelnumber of the engine in question, but it is said that it propelled the boat, w/ a displacement of 7 metric tons and a round-bottom hull, to a top speed of 9 knots, consuming 10 liters of fuel/hour. I don�t know if the Vickers was a 4, 6 or 8 cylinder. The engine is long gone but it would be fun to know some more to complete the boats history. The engine later was replaced by a Penta EC6 after the war and is now in for a new Ford Diesel. The info mentioned above is collected from the Swedish National War Archives (the boat was "drafted" during WW2).
Where can i find info on Vickers boatengines ?

You might ask here: www.internalfire.com or http://www.stationary-engine-magazine.co.uk/ Stationary Engine magazine did publish a marine engine magazine for a while so there is considerable knowledge there. There is probably an organization in the UK for former Vickers employees or apprentices. Another potential source of information. You're sure the engine is long gone...:-)? |
