After rebuilding my M-60 I put in new Champion D16 plugs as recommended. However, the engine backfired badly after an hour or so of testing. After I took the plugs out, 3 were black with soot. I put my old Autolite 386 plugs in and the engine ran smoothly. Is this typical, do these plugs have different temp ratings even though both are recommended? |

Eddie, what's the difference between Autolite 386 and Autolite 3116? Since they both have a last number of 6, I presume they have the same temperature range. |

The 386 crosses to a champion d16.the 3116 crosses to a d18 a hotter plug.People who have AC tractors allso say the 386 works better. |

Thanks Larry, I just got of the phone with my local IHC mechanic. He says they've gone to the d18 plug because they had trouble with backfiring on the old tractor engines using the reformulated gas. Interesting that the 386 crosses to the d16 and yet my engine runs much much better with the 386 than the d16. I guess I'll try the d18 plug like mechanic recommends. |
