I have a Palmer P60 in a 1973 Islander 30 MKII.
While the engine has run fine for over 30 years I would like to add a tachometer as I am changing over to a Flexofold folding propeller.
Any ideas how to do this? |

Moyer Marine has a 4000 rpm tach that is easy to wire and works great. I also added the heat exchanger they offer. I moved to Fl. and didn't like the idea of running salt water through the engine. |

Because I knew a friend who worked for Stewart-Warner, I got a mechanical tach - there's a port for a mechanical tach on the back of the "accessory drive" thing. If I recall correctly, you need to specify that it's for a gas engine, where it's driven at 1/2 crank speed, rather than a diesel. |

I have a mechanical tach, and need a cable. Where do I get one? The manufacturer is Hudson, apparently. |

Truck repair shops keep kits to make tach and speedo cables, everything is cut to length and crimped together. They may be able to help. |

Try a place that outfits/creates/repairs taxicabs. That's where I got the cable for my mechanical tach. I think I found them by looking under "speedometer repair" in the yellow pages. They're all involved in speedometer and cable and instrument stuff because of having to install taximeters and calibrate odometers - though perhaps nowadays it's all electronic. |
