I have a palmer NL-1. What is the lever for that
slides the camshaft front to bach for? Do you
move lever while engine is running? Also it has
a large roller bearing for a thrust bearing. Is
this original? thanks in advance

jerry

Push back to start and as soon as the engine is running pull forward. It is a compression release and must be in the forward position when running or you will ruin the small lobe on the exhaust cam that give about 1/4 compression to start. The engine runs counter clockwise facing the flywheel. The thrust bearing should be a radial style not roller. If it is a radial stlye but has rollers then that would be suitable for the prop shaft thrust bearing. Do you have a serial number for the engine??

Thank you for answering my question. All my engine has is Palmer bros, cos cob ct type 4 by 4, no
tag. Would it be stamped anywhere else? I am glad
you told me it runs counterclockwise,as I couldnt
find any time marks so I timed it off tdc to run
clockwise. Also must sleeve cylinder as compression is low . thanks jerry
