I have a 1973 Sampson 50' ketch, ferro cement. It has a "Newage" 4 cylinder diesel. Does anyone know what could possibly replace this motor with or where i could get parts to rebuild? Thanks for any help |

I'm guessing it will be a BMC (British Leyland) diesel, 2.2 or 1.5 litre. If so, parts should be available from the UK, not sure about elswhere. Pics would help identify better |

If it is a british leyland then there should be a tractor manuel that would cover that engine.A number of differant companys sold their tractors in the US.I have worked on some of them, but never timed an injector pump on one.I'll ask around see if anyone knows. |

Captain is a BMC 1.5 diesel. Most engine internal parts are still available. Original BMC-style marinising has mostly gone, but equally-good aftermarket parts are no problem from my company, Lancing Marine. |

hello, i have Newage Commodor 64 3.8 engine in my boat and i would like to replace original oil filter assembly (paper elemnt style) with the new spin-on type oil filter. Are there any conversion kits available that will bolt to the block directly for spin-on filters or external oil filter? thx |

Recently came across a 2-cylinder marine diesel with 577cc on the block. She's direct cooled, has no lift pump and no manufacturer details. Other marks include 62k - A2 and N5A Z20. I believe it to be a JGM engine but internet searches for info have proven fruitless. I intend using her for the RYA Diesel Engine course but urgently need to know more. Whre can I get a Manual etc.. Ever Grateful John |

Hi John, Having been the assistant Forman at JGM up until two years before it closed, I can tell you the only two cyl diesel engine sold by them was the Volvo MD2, the bread and butter engines were 4 cyl BMC and the big 6cyl and 8cyl were GM's, if by any chance it was sold by them there will be a plate on it somewhere, but I very much doubt it is one of there's. Regards Keith. |

Dear Sirs, Please could you give advice or a hint, how I must proceed for taken out of the air from my fuel system. It is a Thornycroft 154 2,5 liter diesel 4 cyl.(or more specific JGM 2500D Marine Engine 25V-663B-D1065) I understand that I have to open the two vent-bolts on the fuel injectionpump, one (in front) is working well, given good (air free) fuel, but the other vent-bolt at the back of the injectionpump is (almost) doing nothing, no air and no fuel ??? The 4 injection lines are open and indeed given no fuel (if I start the engine by startermotor),... so no engine running never. The basic fuel pump is doing well and perform a steady gasoil pressure. Please what can I do, can you help me. The boot is in located in the Netherlands in Amsterdam By the way, the engine has not been used for say 4 to 5 years,.... But new filter etc.all done. Kind regards, Eric Studer |

Hello, Looking for parts to fit a Westerbeke 30. I'm fairly sure that it is a British Leyland 1,500 cc inline 4 cyl.I was told that the date of mfg. was Sept, 1980. Looking for gaskets, rings, valves and springs. To start with. Thanks |

We have BMC 1.5 Diesel that has starting leaking diesel from the fuel injection pump at the engine stop lever. Engine still runs, but very rough at low revs. Is this easy to fix or do we need to replace the pump. |

Hi Montrose, The pump will be on a master spline and can not be fitted incorrectly but it can be adjusted so mark the body and the block with a centre pop to aline it to where it was when refitting, I can not remember weather this engine is fitted with a DPA pump or a simms rack pump either way there will be marks to set the spill timing, the DPA rotery pump the marks are on the side next to where the pump bolts are, and on the simms type the marks are under a small plate on the side on a rotating coller. Hope this helps Keith |

Ok Geoff, The picture you have sent is of a DPA rotory pump and I think I can just see the timing marks on the edge or the flange by the bolt hole in the photo there will be the same marks on the mating face on the block, the spill timing is the point at which fuel is injected like the spark on a car ignition, the pump as I have said has a master spline and can not be put in wrong, but small adjustments can be made by rotating the pump on its mounts using the marks on the body to get the spill timing spot on, forget my comments on the small plate etc, that only applies to the other type of pump where all the injection pipes are on the top and not round the body. The timeing window is the plate with the 2 small bolts faceing the camera. You line up the 2 marks inside and put the engine on tdc and the number 1 cylinder on the compression stroke to time the engine. Most people like to line up the marks before removal. |

Hi All I would like to rejuvenate my old BMC 1500 in a narrow boat my father just acquired but there seems to little in the way of literature about. Has anyone any ideas to the make a model and whether there is a manual for this type of engine. There are quite a few ugly pipes and it could do with and a few bits replacing to bring it back to its original best. Does anyone have any tips on what manufacturer of paint to use. I know there has been a thread on here regarding the colour and so forth so I am hoping to have the engine out just the once and the paint job to last so would to prefer to do it properly. Has there been anyone who has successfully painted their engine and if so what was the minimum coats they applied? Any advice would be extremely welcome. Many thanks in advance. Hopefully the picture uploads.
