I recently acquired a Hooper Island Draketail with a Chrysler M47 right hand engine. How do I figure out if it is 6 volt or 12 volt? And where do I look to find the serial number of the engine to determine year of manufacture?

Look for the id tag on the generator and starter. You can try the coil, but they often have the mark under the clamp or it has worn off.I packed away my books for house repairs so i can't look up that engine.

The Chrysler M-47 Crown
  • 6 cylinder
  • 265 cid
  • 125HP @ 3600 rpm
  • Starting serial number: M47-20001
  • Ending serial number: M47-24400
  • Beginning of production: 4/20/1955

There was also a M47S Crown Special.

I found the brass serial plate for this draketail's engine:
Chrysler Crowm Marine Engine
Type M47 RF
Serial 7989 S
What can that tell me about the engine?
The starter is missing - where can I find a replacement starter?
