The Gray model T's were the 2 cycle engines with the removable head under the metal head cover ! They were made in 1,2,3, and 4 cylinders, with 7,9 and 12 hp per cylinder. |

What a set up; separate coil for each cylinder! My Gray Model T has serial number 17T20625, 4.75" bore and 3.75" stroke. What HP would that make it? 80+ years old and that bore is smooth as glass...

The Gray model T's were made in two Hp ratings per cylinder, 7hp and 12hp. A 9 hp may have been available in early production. Here is 1914 spec sheet, anyone have an earlier one ? After researching it seems that the Gray model T was on the market 1910 to 1917. WWI afffected most engine mfgrs, I believe Gray ceased all 2 cycle engine production in 1917, the only exception was the model U which was continued until 1927. The model T was only produced for 7 years. The serial numbers should be consistent with Hp, model and production year. The serial no should be stamped in the face of the outer ring of the flywheel. Bill S Model T above, the serial no. was listed here before and this is how its read ! The T is for model T, the numbers to the left are Hp and should be a 7 for a 7Hp single or a multiple of seven , twin 14 Hp, triple 21 Hp,4 cyl 28 Hp. Same with 12 Hp single, twin 24 Hp, triple 36 Hp, 4 cyl 48 Hp. The 4 th number in counting from the right is production year. Gray also put these engines together in combinations as in first paragraph above. This ad is from a 1910 publication although it states 1911 ? Robert's Model T above serial no. 17T20625 would be a model T, 7 Hp made in 1910. and the 4 3/4 bore in specs above would agree. How about some Gray Model T serial Numbers to compare to !!! Ernie Where are you ?? |

Richard, just for fun, on the bottom of your posted engine list, the note talks about the Mississippi sandsucker. Here it is in all it's sandsucking glory.
