Pretty sure it's a Gray and Hawley. Page 215 in the "yellow book" The cover on the side doesn't look original. The one I had had a funny bracket and spring that was actually the check valve and mixer. The needle valve and fuel inlet was there as well. You can just see the bracket and spring in the pic in the "book" Hope this helps Ernie |

Thanks Ernie, I don't have the yellow book (would like to get it though!), but in the Gray(son) book it is described as Gray-Hawley Mfg. Co. of Detroit, MI, trade-name "Little Skipper". You're right I'm sure, that plate does not look original. Can anyone add to our knowledge? |

for around $175, you can by the BYB almost weekly on ebay. I had to settle for the BRB book when it was still in print. The BYB has better pictures. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=63945&item=4507696552&rd= 1& BYB= Big yellow book BRB= Big Red book. they will probably not be reprinted any time soon, so if you see one at a reasonable cost, you should buy it. |

When I looked into Gray-Hawley they were a mfging Co. that made many marine items but not sure they ever mfgd engines, seems in 1908 they bought the engine inventory of the St Clair Motor Co.Detroit and sold them untill they were gone and all later ads for Gray- Hawley didn't mention engines. H.D. Baird was the designer of the engine and applied for patents in 1905-06. Ad is 1906 Notice in the list of fuels " BLUE BLAZE" What's that ?? Possible that has something to do with the old saying BLUE BLAZES ?? |

I have had a Belle Isle and Gray and Hawley sitting next to each other. Very similar but really nothing in common but the general shape. |
