Ive heard it was impossible to get these anymore, besides some folks in new york charging like 400 dollars a set. Is there any other source? I'm not exactly sure which model I've got, but all of a sudden it almost sounds like a faint rod knock. Can someone by chance identify my engine by means of a picture or casting numbers or something?

Isn't there a model number shown on the nameplate? It is probably a Continental engine and bearings should be available. Do you know the displacement?
Larry can probably identify it by the picture. |

It is a continental. The nameplate on the exhaust manifold? I'll check and see. I think its a 162CI, perhaps a phantom?

The plate on the transmission says model 620 below that, stamped, G2846.
On the bottom of the engine block, right above the oil pan F 400A 4 U 3
on the other side E95 CWC
There are other numbers cast all over the place, anything specific I should look for?

There is a Gray Marine model 620:
- 4 cylinders
- 3-3/16 x 4-3/8
- 140 cid
- 60hp @ 3200
- weight 525 lbs direct drive - 620 lbs reduction drive
I believe it was based on the F-140 Continental "L-Head" block. You should be able to find those continental bearings. |

How is 3500 for WOT on this little guy? I tried a bigger prop which kept the same top end (damn near 20mph) but only revved to 2800!
I thought I heard a rod knock and tore it apart only to find nothing... Apparently the rusty old shortblock I had really WAS all new parts, 30 years ago. I have the motor in a 1957 Lone Star 23 foot aluminum (outboard) boat. Its a good match @ 20mph and 5mpg.
